Completed Casting Call

Well, today was our first official in person casting call.  God works in mysterious ways and today He decided that things were going to be slow.  We had put up fliers and such about the casting call, but in my ignorance, I put the wrong highway number up, so people were misdirected.  Aw well.  But since we called people, we had two show up, and that was very heartening.  One lady who brought her daughter encouraged me so much with her comments on how they were looking forward to this and how she read all the emails.  Oh it was so good to hear that :) .

So, we plow forward.  A second casting call is being planned and will probably be held in the next few weeks.

And, as Josh reminds me, we start shooting just over 2 weeks!  This scares and excites me.  I am really looking forward to seeing all my crew members and watching them do their part to bring this little story to life.

Please keep us in prayer.  Right now I am trying to make casting decisions, but we don’t have alot  of people who have auditioned.  Keep the casting of this film in your prayers, please.  Also, the budget needs prayer.  There is a possibility I will have to send out of state for actors, and this costs.  Please keep this in prayer, and if you can help in anyway, our fundable is still going on.  Thank you so much for your prayers and support!

How this all got started

Well, if you have heard of this project, I’m sure you are wondering “How this whole thing get started, anyway?” Well it all got started about 5 years ago, after the closing ceremonies for Awana.

My mom and sisters and I were talking about how so many siblings have to struggle with an older sibling who excels at many things, but they don’t really excel in the same things at the same time. This got me to thinking about what extremes a sibling might go to for attention. Then came the idea of what if a girl agreed to meet a guy who she had met on the internet via a chat room. Thus the first draft of “Am I Special Too?” was born.

Of course, we didn’t know what in the world we were doing.  It’s alot easier to just write a story, but the hard part is really when you start producing it.   My younger sister got cast in the main role, mainly because I didn’t know anyone else to do it, and we shot a scene in our bedroom.  There were lots of laughes, but we still didn’t know what we were doing.

Than I got ambitious!  I decided to bring in another actor and shoot the climaxitic scene between the lead girl and the bad guy.  The shoot went well, execpt for the fact that the camera hardly recorded the sound and I never got my sis to sit down and rerecord her lines, so that scene never went anywhere.

Than we shot a third scene that took place in a chat room and that one went well too, but I never did anything with the footage I shot or planned anything to shoot the rest of the film.  So I put the project on the back burner for a year or two, knowing that I needed to come back to it and fix it.  The original drafts had some major problems with them.

So I went on with my life, graduated highschool and started college.  My first summer after starting college I also made my first short film called Found and that was a really good experience.  It taught me alot.  My second semester of college I took a beginning screenwriting class and that class explained so much to me that by the time the class ended I was pulling out the Am I Special idea and dusting it off.  I realized that there were some major problems with it, but I took my new knowledge of storytelling and got to work. By Decemeber 2008, I had a new version and I was getting excited about making this film.

And thats how it all got started.  It’s been a long journey, 3 years in the making, but things are finally coming into place.  Maybe God does want this film made.  I don’t know why, but I’m going to keep working on it :) .
